Robert Burns, arguabley Scotland’s best known poet, spent his final years in the Dumfries area in the late eighteenth century. The Robert Burns Centre is located in the towns 18th century watermill, and displays a series or artefacts from the era, and indeed many original manuscripts and belonings of Burns himself.
Galloway Activity Centre, situated on the shores of Loch Ken, is a family run outdoors centre, offering a wide range of both land and water based activities. The centre is open all year round, and is suitable for all ages. Some of the activities on offer are kayaking, paddleboarding, mountain biking, and archery, and so many more.
Originally established in 1836, the historic Annandale Distillery has recently undergone a 21st century restoration and transformation, and is once again producing single malt Scotch whisky after almost a 100 year pause. The distillery offer tours, tasting, a coffee shop, and merchandise.
Moat Brae is the National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling – and the birthplace of Peter Pan! With both the house and the garden available, there is no shortage of activities for both children and adults alike to immerse themselves in.
